breast reconstruction after cancer surgery performed by surgeon dr. joshua levine

About Reconstruction Surgery After Breast Cancer:

Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that starts in the cells of the breast. A malignant tumor is a group of cancer cells that can grow into (invade) surrounding tissues or spread (metastasize) to distant areas of the body.

Breast reconstruction surgery for breast cancer is performed to replace skin, breast tissue and the nipple (if removed) during mastectomy. While it is ideal to have breast reconstruction and mastectomy done simultaneously, timing is based on the woman’s desires, other medical conditions, and breast cancer treatment.
